Summary: Stereochemistry the topic of conformational enantiomers (dynamic enantiomers) using the gauche conformations of butane has been added to chapter 4 (stereochemistry). Previously, this concept was informally introduced with substituted cyclohexanes in an in-chapter problem. The acyclic example should be easier for the student to visualize and will be reinforced by the more complicated cyclohexane example. A method for the assignment of (R) and (S) configurations directly from fischer projections also been added to chapter 4. The concept of diastereotopic hydrogens has been included in the section on prochirality in chapter 4.
