Offshore FLNG production offers a potential solution for many projects-in particular, small-scale to mid-scale capacity (0.5 MMtpy to 3 MMtpy). However, it is only in the last 10 years that a few FLNG projects have progressed to the detailed design and construction stage. In fact, some special challenges still exist in design, construction and operation of an offshore FLNG facility (mainly due to vessel motion, limited space and weight, facility operations and safety requirements) that require capital-intensive mitigating designs.
