Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

Professor Li?s World Atlas of Oil and Gas Basins is afresh and comprehensive treatise of the distribution of theworld?s hydrocarbon reserves. The Atlas highlights thegeographical, sedimentary and geological features of the basins, using a combination of maps and stratigraphic diagrams to depictthe history, prospectivity and commercial production capacity ofthe reserves on a continental and country-by-countrybasis.

The Atlas is an essential reference source for petroleum geologistsand reservoir engineers working in hydrocarbon exploration andproduction. It is also a valuable and original teaching aid foruniversity graduate and postgraduate courses.

The Atlas provides a welcome addition to the global database of theworld?s energy resources and is therefore an indispensablesource of information for the formulation of future strategies toexploit oil and gas reserves.

Written by one of China?s foremost petroleum geologists, theAtlas provides a rare analysis of the industry from the perspectiveof the country whose demand for oil and gas is set to become thelargest in the next few decades. It is an important and vitalscholarly work.

Created by an authority on petroleum geology, this atlas provides information about oil and gas basins of the world at a time when petroleum is of prime economic and political interest. Introductory material includes the geological timescale and a key to the maps. The book is divided into seven parts. The first part is an overview with various world maps, including one of oil and gas basins, along with graphs of oil and gas reserves, production, and prices. Maps and illustrations are in color. Parts 2-7 are divided by continent and subdivided by country. Each part features introductory information and a regional map of oil and gas basins. Each country chapter has introductory information and descriptions of selected basins within the country. Each chapter also presents a map showing basins. Other features include a table of contents, a reference list, an index of countries, and an index of basins. Although the information provided is very brief for such a vast subject, this book is a valuable resource for those seeking a basic understanding of the locations and features of the oil and gas basins of the world. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Lower-level undergraduates and above; general readers. L. Joseph University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
